COWETA COUNTY HOSTING VOLUNTEER COORDINATION CENTER APRIL 17

Newnan, GA (April 14, 2021) - Coweta County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is organizing its next Volunteer Coordination Center on Saturday, April 17 to provide further assistance to residents impacted by the recent tornado. Volunteers should be ready for an active day of moving heavy debris to the side of the road and helping citizens with other needs.

The Volunteer Coordination Center will be open on Saturday, April 17 from 9:00 - 5:00 p.m. Shifts are from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. (including travel time). EMA is urging citizens who own and have experience with heavy machinery to get involved. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. Volunteers should report to Smokey Road Middle School located at 965 Smokey Road, Newnan, GA where they will drive up, receive an assignment and then travel via their own vehicle to a work zone. Volunteers are encouraged to pre-register using the QR code, complete paperwork in advance (online here), and bring a signed waiver of liability form. When traveling to Smokey Road Middle School, individuals are advised to take the 34 Bypass to Ishman Ballard Road.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing for outdoor work. They will receive a pair of gloves, water, and a map after check-in. If volunteers are bringing heavy machinery, they are encouraged to arrive 30-minutes prior to their shift. Face masks are required.
