East Washington Street Extension (McIntosh Parkway) – completion date, 640 days from Notice to Proceed, December 2018

Construction continues on the East Washington Street Extension project, otherwise known as McIntosh Parkway.  Grading is nearing completion for the segment from Greison Trail to near Ashley Park.  Included in this section is the completion of several concrete box culverts, and the installation of storm sewers, and a sanitary sewer main and water main.

The construction of a roundabout intersection at Greison Trail is underway.  This has necessitated the closure of Greison Trail from Berry Avenue to Park Lane at Chastain Park.  The work to construct the roundabout is scheduled to take about 3 months to complete (through September).  The closure of Greison Trail will expedite construction and maximize the safety of the construction workers.

Detour signs for Greison Trail are posted.  The detour directs southbound through traffic to Berry Avenue to Roberts Road to East Broad Street, back to Greison Trail.  Northbound through traffic is directed to East Broad Street to Roberts Road to Berry Avenue, back to Greison Trail.  Access will be maintained to all of the businesses and residential neighborhoods from Greison Trail.

Utility work on the existing section of East Washington Street also continues.  This has necessitated the closure of East Washington Street, periodically, between Farmer Street and Roberts Road.  Local access is maintained. This project consists of the construction of a connector roadway from East Washington Street to McIntosh Parkway. The proposed roadway is to be a two-lane road from Farmers Street to Greison Trail and a four-lane road from Greison Trail to the east terminus. The intersection with Greison Trail is to be a roundabout.

The project consists of approximately 0.4 miles of existing roadway widening/ reconstruction, and one mile new roadway construction.

The cost of construction is $6,145,998.18, with the City of Newnan having received a grant in the amount of $1,754,000 from the State Road and Tollway Authority.
